Return to campus info for students

A group of five students walk away from the entrance of the Mearns Centre at UVic campus.

It's great to be back together!

UVic is thrilled to welcome new and returning students to campus. Have a safe and happy start to this new academic year.

Informed by provincial health guidelines, we expect to be at Step 4 of our restart plan this fall. We’ll share more about what to expect on campus as soon as we can —including welcome events, student services, and classroom, lab and studio spaces.

Orientation & welcome events

Connecting with peers and getting to know campus is important for all students, but especially to those incoming first- and second-year students who have not yet experienced the vibrant on-campus life at UVic. We’re working hard to ensure you’re supported with lots of initiatives and events to welcome you.

Health & safety

Our safety programing is informed by guidance and direction from the provincial health officer, COVID-19 Go-Forward Guidelines for B.C.’s Post-Secondary Sector and WorkSafeBC.

Course delivery

Starting in September 2021, most undergraduate and graduate courses return to face to face delivery. To ensure equitable access to UVic programming, some online courses are offered in the fall term for students who are unable to be on campus due to pandemic-related challenges like study permit processing delays.

Check out the timetable to learn which courses are online, face to face or a blend. The Winter Session 2021/22 timetable is now live and indicates the instructional method for individual courses.

Study spaces & computer labs

Quiet study spaces are available on campus so you can focus on your learning in a safe environment. The Computer Help Desk Computing Facilities are open with limited capacity in the Clearihue building.

Residences are open this year with 2,000 bed spaces available. A small number of beds will be reserved for students in residence who need to self-isolate during the term due to COVID-19.

First-year applicants entering UVic during their high school graduation year will be given first priority in residence. Room offers will be sent to students between July and August.

International students

If you haven’t already applied for a study permit, you will need one to study in Canada. Even if you are starting your program online outside of Canada, we recommend applying for your study permit as soon as possible because the application process can take weeks or even months.

Anyone arriving from outside of Canada must self-isolate for 14 days upon their arrival, whether or not they have COVID-19 symptoms. UVic students required to self-isolate can access our self-isolation program for help arranging accommodations, necessities and supports.
