Course delivery
Since Winter Session 2021/22, UVic has returned to primarily in-person learning with varying layers of health and safety measures in place, depending on the latest public health guidance.
While most classrooms now have integrated lecture capture equipment that instructors may choose to use, basic lecture recordings are intended to supplement face-to-face learning rather than provide the robust online experience required for online courses. Students are expected to attend their in-person courses unless they are ill.
We do encourage instructors to record and post their lectures to Brightspace where possible and practical.
Missing class or exams
Please do not come to campus for any reason if you feel unwell.
Some things to know if you have to miss class:
- Contact your instructor(s) as soon as possible to let them know about your absence. They are in the best position to determine how to meet the learning outcomes for their course.
- Check Brightspace or ask your instructor(s) if they have PowerPoints, recordings or other materials available for classes you've missed.
- Ask classmates if they can share notes from any classes you've missed.
- Request an academic concession if you have to miss an exam or are unable to complete the coursework due to unexpected and unavoidable circumstances.
Convocation
UVic is planning in-person convocation ceremonies for graduating students this spring and going forward. Ceremonies will take place in the Farquhar Auditorium.
International students
If you haven’t already applied for a study permit, you will need one to study in Canada. Even if you are starting your program online outside of Canada, we recommend applying for your study permit as soon as possible because the application process can take weeks or even months.
