New Student Connect

The New Student Connect program is an online university community where new students from all over the world connect with others entering their first-year at UVic. The Connect program offers the opportunity for new students to connect with both peers and programming relevant to their needs.

By participating in the Connect program, new UVic students are paired with an upper-year student mentor called an Engage Leader (EL). ELs want to help make the first-year experience memorable and meaningful for new students. ELs provide ongoing support, encouragement and information through regular 1:1 check-ins. They are a wealth of knowledge about student life, the UVic student community, services available to new students, and ways to get the right support when new students need it.

Using the Microsoft Teams platform, ELs facilitate connections amongst a group of other first-year students in a shared faculty, and lead activities and events to help build community. Throughout the year new students can participate in different social events, join clubs and course unions, and attend learning workshops.

The New Student Connect HUB is an MS Teams channel where folks from the Office of Student Life, as well as our partners across campus, share information and events that are relevant to all new students. There are also a number of channels in this HUB where new students can connect with one another around particular interests. Only students registered in the program can access the New Student Connect HUB.
