Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre (BMSC)

The Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre (BMSC) is a year-round research facility on the west coast of Vancouver Island. It’s an ideal location for undergraduate and graduate courses in marine and coastal science.

BMS contains an ecophysiology laboratory, a fluid dynamics laboratory and an indoor sea tank. It also has classrooms and accommodations.

The Univerity of Victoria (UVic) is a member of the Western Canadian Universities Marine Sciences Society (WCUMSS) that operates the BMS.

The centre was established in Bamfield, BC in 1972 on the former site of the Bamfield Cable station, which was eastern terminus for the Pacific Cable Board's trans-Pacific cable.
