This page is a working document that will provide details of course delivery as they become available.  Please check back as these plans are fluid and may be subject to change.

Synchronous = at a set day/time (in real time)
Asynchronous = not at a set time (on your own time)

ASTR 101

Course Instructor:  Dr. Travis Martin - travismartin@uvic.ca

Lectures:  will be held online asynchronously but some of the regularly scheduled timeslots will be used for other aspects of this course.

Labs:  will be held online synchronously through Zoom or Blackboard Collaborate. 

Exams & Quizzes:  There will be 5 online quizzes during the semester that will be held during the assigned class lecture hours. There will be an online final exam during the university final exam period in December 2020.

Other:  Office hours will be held on Zoom with a variety of different time options (not yet fixed).

ASTR 102

Course Instructor:  Dr. Kevin Casteels - casteels@uvic.ca

Lectures:  will be held online synchronously via Zoom.  Lectures will be recorded and posted online for those students who couldn't attend the live session or for those students who want to review them.

Labs:  will be held online synchronously through Zoom or Blackboard Collaborate.

Exams & Assignments:  There will be two mid-terms scheduled October 1 and November 5, 2020.  The final exam will be held during the university final exam period in December 2020.  There will be 6 assignments to be sent in as pdf scans.

ASTR 329

PHYS 102A

Labs:  will be held online synchronously with assigned experiments to be completed at home

Assignments:  will be completed through an online platform WebAssign which is part of the textbook bundle for this course

Exams:  Three mid-term exams will be held in an online format at 7:00 - 8:30 pm on October 14, November 18, and December 4, 2020.  There will not be a final exam.

PHYS 110

Course Instructors:  Dr. Mark Laidlaw (co-ordinator) - laidlaw@uvic.ca and Dr. Travis Martin - travismartin@uvic.ca

Lectures:  Recorded lecture segments will be available online.  The synchronous lecture times can be attended remotely, and will be used for demos and example workings.  Quizzes will also be held during these time blocks.

Labs:  will be held online synchronously and can be attended remotely using the video conferencing system.  Students are expected to attend weekly.

Assignments:  will be administered through UVic’s LMS

Final Exam: There will be a centrally scheduled final exam during the university final exam period in December 2020.

PHYS 229

Course Instructor:  Dr. Andrew MacRae - macrae@uvic.ca

Lectures:  The lectures will be split into two components - "fundamentals" lectures and "practical skills" lectures. Fundamentals lectures are shorter lectures that are posted online several times per week, asynchronously and will be available offline for the duration of the course. Practical Skills lectures will be held online synchronously and will occur once per week.

Labs:  The students will purchase an electronics kit as part of the course package available at the Uvic Bookstore. All the labs will be held online synchronously and will be performed using this kit and the materials in the kit are the students' to keep. The lab reports will be handed in online.

Exams & Quizzes:  There will be weekly online quizzes.

Other:  Office hours will be available online by appointment.

PHYS 321A
