Tenure-Track Position in Statistical Data Science

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Victoria invites applications for a tenure-track position, subject to funding, at the Assistant Professor level in Statistical Data Science, to commence July 1, 2019.

As a member of the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS), UVic provides excellent opportunities for collaboration and postdoctoral support. The Department itself is very active in research areas that intersect with Statistical Data Science, especially with Statistics, Biostatistics, Statistical Genomics, Robust and Bayesian Statistics, Probability, Mathematical Biology, and Climate Modelling, among others. UVic is an internationally recognized centre for the collection and analysis of large data, including Ocean Networks Canada, the Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium, and the Matrix Institute for Applied Data Science. There is also potential for interaction with Physics and Astronomy, Cognition and Brain Science, Health Sciences, and Geography among others. The successful candidate will find a supportive, diverse, and intellectually stimulating academic environment at the University of Victoria.

Applicants must have a PhD in the Mathematical or Statistical Sciences. The successful candidate will have a strong record of research in Statistical/Mathematical aspects of Data Science, with demonstrated potential for establishing an internationally recognized research program, as demonstrated for example by a solid publication record in highly ranked peer-reviewed journals, and will have the potential for synergy with existing research themes in the Department or the University. The successful candidate will be expected to supervise graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, and will demonstrate excellence or potential for excellence in graduate and undergraduate teaching so as to maintain and enhance the department’s high teaching standard.
