JOB TITLE: MATH1 - MATH & STATS Social Media Content Developer

JOB DESCRIPTION:

To work with a faculty supervisor to enhance the department's online presence in support of our undergraduate and graduate students in the mathematical sciences. The student will contribute by receiving ideas for stories, researching links to outside content, developing internal content, and finally adapting the content for publication. This content will be shared on a new Math & Stats department blog (see https://blogs.ams.org/blogonmathblogs for information and thoughts on best practices) and/or social media platforms such as Twitter.

Ideally, two students will be hired and will work as a team to take advantage of varied skill sets and interests. Both will be supervised by the named contacts above.

We aim to give our students a voice and an online home to talk about mathematical sciences and our programs. The project will help us connect with our students, expand their interest and understanding of the subject, and contribute strongly to the equity, diversity, and inclusion goals of the department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Social media savvy with strong communication skills and a natural interest/love of the subject area: Mathematics and Statistics. There is an understanding that the content developed will be the property of the Math and Stats department at UVic.

JOB LOCATION ON-CAMPUS: N/A

WORK STUDY WAGE: $16.50/hour (including 4% vacation pay)

DEPARTMENT TOP UP: $5.00/hour

HOURS AVAILABLE: 320 hours, representing 10 hours/week shared, with flexibility to negotiate up or down.
