Janet Person Legacy Award

One or more awards of at least $2,000 each are given to entering or continuing undergraduate students in the JD/JID program or to First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit students entering or continuing undergraduate students in the JD program of the Faculty of Law who have demonstrated academic ability together with determination, resilience, contribution, and compassion in areas of life such as prior work experience, graduate study, community service, family care, or disability. Preference will be given to students who have lived in Haida Gwaii or Northern BC (the region located in the northern part of the province, between the Yukon and the Northwest Territories in the Canadian North, and the Cariboo and Chilcotin in the interior of BC). Approval of the recipient(s) will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards upon recommendation of the Faculty of Law.

Applicants, candidates or nominees for this award who have indicated they are First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit are required to demonstrate their eligibility for Indigenous-specific awards in alignment with the Indigenous Citizenship Declaration (ICD) Policy (GV0810).

Eligibility

In-Course scholarships, awards, medals and prizes are offered to undergraduate students who have completed a minimum of 12.0 units for credit, of which 10.5 units are graded using the standard nine point scale, in two of the three terms of study in the previous academic year (May to April). In-course scholarships, awards and prizes are awarded in the subsequent winter session (September to April).

How to accept

To accept your scholarship offer:

  1. Have a NetLink ID
  2. Go to www.uvic.ca and sign into your UVic Online tools account using your NetLink ID
  3. Select "Student Services" on the top menu
  4. Select "Awards and financial aid" under "Finances"
  5. Select "View My Student Aid"
  6. Enter the Aid Year and Aid Period
  7. Select "Accept" on the scholarship(s) you have been offered
