Policies

The Facility for Imaging, Photonics and Spectroscopy (FIPS) is an open access user facility. Anyone may apply to use the facility regardless of discipline, whether for academic or commercial purposes.

  • All users must be trained by a superuser, and all superusers are responsible for the users they certify. Before a user is permitted to operate an instrument, they must first demonstrate competency and complete the required mandatory training certificate.
  • All users must use the reservation and login systems of each particular instrument they wish to operate. Users who fail to show up for their reserved time may still be charged for their session, especially if it is a repeat offence.
  • Users are responsible for backing up their own data from each session. We are not responsible for any accidental data loss, as well, any data left on an instrument's computer are subject to deletion without warning.
  • Users are responsible for informing us promptly if an instrument is not performing properly. This can be done either by reporting the issue online or talking to our lab manager directly.
  • No food or drink is permitted in the facility.
  • Users should refrain from leaving unattended items in the facility, and we are not responsible for any such items.
