About us

Welcome to the Facility for Imaging, Photonics and Spectroscopy (FIPS). Our mission is to provide researchers and students with training and support on leading-edge imaging, photonics and spectroscopy technology.

FIPS is part of the Centre for Advanced Materials and Related Technology (CAMTEC). We are pleased to help enable research on optical materials, optical imaging and characterization here at the University of Victoria. This website presents useful information regarding specific equipment available in our infrastructure and our policies for access and usage.

FIPS has a lab manager with a background in optics and laser spectroscopy to train new users and help with specific experimental setups. Several interdisciplinary research projects is being developed in the Facility, spanning a broad range of fundamental and applied problems in the areas of quantum dots, biomedical devices, biological imaging and time-resolved spectroscopy.

The operation of the infrastructure is funded through a cost-recovery system of user fees and specific grants and contracts. We welcome anyone who may apply to use the facility regardless of discipline, whether for academic or commercial purposes. We encourage you to contact us to discuss how we can be of assistance to you.
