Patrick Makokoro’s role at the Centre for Global Studies is to provide research support to the UVic based UNESCO Chair for Early Childhood Development. Patrick is a social entrepreneur, educational researcher with extensive experience working in community and international development. He practices as a development consultant with research interests in community development, social justice, early childhood education, child protection, policy advocacy, and government relations. Patrick Makokoro works at the intersection of trust based philanthropy models and asset based community development. The work he has carried out ranges from early learning advocacy network establishment in Detroit, USA, co-creating strength based strategies for non-profit organizations, schools and businesses in British Columbia, Canada and providing extensive consulting support to international non-profits working in Africa.

Patrick Makokoro has a BA in Community Development from the University of South Africa, a Post Graduate Diploma in International Youth and Child Care from the University of Victoria, an MSc in Development Studies from the Women’s University of Africa. He has a Doctoral degree in Educational Studies (Curriculum and Instruction) from the University of Victoria, Canada.
