Svenja McGrath

Svenja McGrath is a CFGS Visiting Graduate Student Fellow and a second year PhD candidate and research associate in the Department of Geography at Hamburg University. She holds a BA in Geography and Political Science from Hamburg University and an MA in Law and Politics of International Security from VU Amsterdam. Her research critically examines how militaries are positioning themselves as central security actors in the context of climate change, interrogating both their institutional strategies and practical operations. She is further interested in how territoriality is revitalized through uncertain climate futures, and how political polarization is expressed and reinforced in the ways we talk about and respond to climate change.
