Arvind Kumar is a Graduate Student Fellow at the Centre for Global Studies and a PhD Candidate in the Law and Society program at the Faculty of Law, University of Victoria. Before joining UVic in 2019, Arvind graduated in Law from National Law University (Lucknow, India) and obtained his LL.M in Access to Justice from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (Mumbai, India). Subsequently, Arvind worked for five years in various capacities to strengthen access to justice for Dalit and Adivasi communities in different parts of India.
His doctoral research seeks to understand Adivasi peoples (de-facto Indigenous peoples of India) historical struggle for self-governance and autonomy amidst the Naxal movement. His area of research and interests include Law and Indigeneity, Indigenous Legal/Governance Traditions, Socio-cultural-religious-political history of South Asia, Adivasi and Dalit Movements, Critical Race/Caste/Indigenous Studies, and Legal Pluralism.
