Five year renewal for Chair in Transgender Studies
In April and May 2020, the Senate and Board of Governors approved a renewal of the Chair in Transgender Studies for another five-year term. Aaron Devor has been appointed to a second term.

In 2017, a project began behind the scenes to enhance online services and information for trans, Two-Spirit and non-binary students and employees. The new web resource launched on the Equity and Human Rights (EQHR) website in the fall.

2016 Moving Trans History Forward
An international conference, led by the new UVic Chair in Transgender Studies Aaron Devor, brought together some of the world's top researchers, opinion leaders, transgender community activists and students this month to explore the history of transgender activism and crucial issues which impact the lives of trans and gender-nonconforming people.

A million dollar donation to establish a chair in transgender studies—the first of its kind—will make all the difference to students such as Alyx MacAdams, who self-identifies as a genderqueer and trans-masculine person. “I am very grateful that this chair now exists, and I look forward to participating in and witnessing what happens over the next few years,” says MacAdams.
Moving trans* history forward
At 320 linear feet, or 98 metres, of archival materials, books, and periodicals—representing 17 countries and spanning over a century of activism and research—The Transgender Archives at UVic are the largest in the world. From March 21 to 23, the Transgender Archives will host Moving Trans* History Forward, a three-day symposium of keynote speakers, panel discussions, film screenings and art exhibitions devoted to the acquisition, preservation, and access of trans* history and archival materials.
