Project title: How do societal constructions of sexual shame and dismissal impact female sexual pleasure, and how does it relate to cultures of sexualized violence?

Department: Gender Studies

Faculty supervisor: Dr. Sikata Banerjee

"This research project will explore societal discourses around shaming female sexuality, including dismissals of female pleasure, so-called slut-shaming, shame or discomfort around female genitalia and unrealistic depictions of ‘proper’ female sexuality (ie pornography, expectations of vaginal orgasms, virginity). This project will then examine the implications on female pleasure, and further consider the relationship between these constructions and pervasive cultures of sexualized violence."
