Credentials

BA and MA (UVic), MA and PhD (University of Rochester, New York)

Dr. Kevin Cryderman’s PhD focus was on the novel and film, and before being a sessional instructor at UVIC he taught both English and Film Studies at various grade levels at The University of Rochester (NY), Emory University (Atlanta, GA) and Georgia Gwinnett College (Gwinnett, GA).  He began teaching at UVIC in September of 2018, first in English and now as part of the ATWP. His classes involve a balance between lectures and discussions of writing topics, student projects and short readings that illustrate principles of argument and rhetoric.  He foregrounds academic reading and writing skills as a “coach” for students using brainstorming, outlining, drafting, editing, peer feedback, professor feedback and self-assessment.  His philosophy on writing is that it is a skill that, given some guidance, students can improve no matter where they are starting from.  Aside from teaching, Dr. Cryderman is a music recording artist and avid TV and movie watcher.
