Academic and Technical Writing Program Welcomes Dr. Steven Accardi as New Director
The Academic and Technical Writing Program is pleased to announce the official appointment of Dr. Steven Accardi as the new Program Director. Dr. Accardi specializes in rhetoric and writing. His current research project examines dynamic writing-transfer across writing courses.
Dr. Accardi holds a Ph.D. from Arizona State University, where he served as Assistant Writing Program Administrator. Upon graduation, Dr. Accardi was Assistant Professor of English at Penn State Hazleton where he conducted research that intersected first-year writing courses with community engagement projects and taught upper division courses in rhetorical theory and discourse analysis.
Before coming to UVic, Dr. Accardi founded, built, and expanded, the writing studies program at College of DuPage. He chaired the two-time national award-winning Writing Studies program and has led significant curricular initiatives, including the development of the Professional Writing Certificate and the community-engaged Professional Writing Lecture Series. Dr. Accardi is also on the executive board of the Council of Writing Program Administrators.
"I am so excited to be here. Everyone has been incredibly nice and supportive, not just to me, but to my entire family," Accardi said.
The ATWP team warmly welcomes Dr. Accardi and looks forward to continuing to grow and foster excellence in academic and technical writing at UVic and in the wider rhetoric and writing community.
