Area of expertise

First-year academic writing, Retention, Student self-placement, Contemporary Fiction in English, Chaucer, medieval romance, Arsenal FC

I came to UVic in 1990 to do an MA. After beginning a PhD in 1992, I gradually morphed into a sessional instructor and then a continuing sessional. I taught my first class for the English Department in Fall 1995 and I have been teaching ever since. In 2014, I was hired as an Assistant Teaching Professor with my primary responsibilities being in the Division of Academic Writing, now the Academic and Technical Writing Program. My doctoral dissertation (unfinished) was on representations of reading in Chaucer, but my primary focus now is teaching, particularly ATWP 101, ATWP 135 and ENGL 146 and ENGL 200A. I try to bring energy, enthusiasm, and kindness to every class I teach.

My interests include Chaucer, the pedagogy of teaching writing and literature, contemporary fiction in English, and the Arsenal Football Club.
