Meet the winners of our Inaugural Island Savings staff award

Island Savings Staff Award

Congratulations to two valued staff members, Gillian Cornwall and Coretta Peets, who have been recognized with the inaugural Island Savings Staff Professional Development Award.

As the top winner, Cornwall, an academic administrative officer for the School of Public Health and Social Policy, will receive $1,000 towards a professional development opportunity of her choice. The award honours Cornwall for inspiring her colleagues by building a sense of community and contributing to a spirit of wellbeing within the faculty.

After working at the University of Victoria for 28 years, Cornwall said that she hopes to finish her career at HSD, where she says she has been honoured to work since 2018.

"I wouldn't do what I do without seeing your smiles and goodwill and the amazing work you do for each other," Cornwall said at the award event. "This is such a great thing for staff to be able to grow and develop."

Coretta Peets, who has worked for the School of Social Work for three years, received the runner-up prize and $500 towards a professional development opportunity of her choice. An admissions coordinator and academic support advisor for the Bachelor of Social Work program, Peets joined the team at the start of the COVID pandemic.

"We really had to come together," she says. "Thanks for being a place I'm really proud to be a part of."

The awards were presented at HSD's winter social event on Dec. 14. For more information, please visit our awards page
