UVic co-hosted leadership programs

June 2023 marked 10-years since the introduction of leadership development programming at UVic.  This year, HR-ODLS in partnership with Faculty Relations and Academic Administration, presents the Let’s Talk About Leadership (LTAL) program. Alongside this offering of programs, we will also engage in a a feedback process to help inform launching a new joint-hosted leadership series in 2024-2025.

Let’s Talk About Leadership has been designed to bring UVic leaders together to explore universal topics with an added emphasis on practical real-life application in UVic’s academic and operational contexts.  Each session in the series will bring together a diverse group of leaders from across campus for collective learning on topics that are broadly relevant, as well as provide an opportunity to break into role-based affinity groups for practical, context-specific exploration of the topic.

Let’s Talk About Leadership (LTAL) invites and makes space for learning and unlearning as it relates to the concepts and models of leadership that have been centered and upheld in colonial systems and structures (like a university!). LTAL aims to bring people together to dig into the work of critically examining leadership with a lens of power, privilege, and colonialism, from unique individual perspectives and shared experiences as leaders at UVic.

Throughout these conversations we will also explore how understandings of interconnectedness and relationality can add to leadership practices, and make space for diversity of thought, experience, creativity, and people’s sense of belonging.

Who Can Register?

This series is curated for both academic and operational leaders with responsibility in the direction of faculty, staff, or oversight of a service area. (e.g., Deans, Chairs, Research Centre Directors, or Associate Deans) and senior administrative leaders of large departments and services (e.g., AVPs, Directors, Management Excluded leaders, Administrative Officers, and senior PEA leaders).
