UVic removes posters

Shortly after 9 a.m. on November 14, Campus Security Services received a complaint that posters stating “It’s okay to be white” were taped to the outside of buildings and bike racks. Security officers immediately responded to the complaint and removed about a half-dozen posters. A search found there were no further posters like this on campus.

The posters are similar to those found recently at the University of Toronto, University of Calgary, University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier and several U.S. campuses.

The University of Victoria has a deep commitment to being a diverse and welcoming community. The university is disappointed that anyone would post what appears to be intentionally divisive material such as this.
