Business Minor program structure
Required courses
The Business Minor program consists of 9.0 units of course work. This includes passing grades in the following 6 courses:
- COM 100 – Understanding World-Class Organizations
- One of the following organizational behaviour courses:
- One of the following accounting courses:
- One of the following finance courses:
- One of the following marketing courses:
- One additional 300‑ or 400‑level course (1.5 units):
- COM, ENT, or IB 300–499
Students who satisfy the prerequisites can register in these courses through Online Tools.

You can apply to complete an alternate upper-level course through our request for registration process. Please follow the request for registration process.

Note: For COM 450 Special Topics: each section is a different class entirely (you can complete as many sections as you would like).
Request for registration process
If you want to take an individual commerce course, please follow these steps:
- Review courses available for the upcoming term—posted 4 weeks before the start of term.
- Complete a request for registration form.
- Visiting students must send a copy of their transcripts from their home institution to the BCom Program Office.
Please submit your registration form by the following deadlines:

Applicants should be aware that course availability is limited in any given term. We award spaces in classes based on:
- availability
- most recent available grade-point average of the applicant
- completion of prerequisites
Visiting students
If you are a visiting student, you must apply to UVic and receive a letter of acceptance before taking commerce courses. You will also need a letter of permission from your home institution.
Once admitted, you can apply to register for individual commerce courses through the request for registration process. Courses are subject to availability.
The BCom advising team may need transcripts or course outlines to show that you meet the prerequisites.
