Peter Dobias is a senior defence scientist with the Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) Centre for Operational Research and Analysis (CORA), with the research interest in complex adaptive system, in particular in the context of fat-tail risk assessment, critical (phase transition) phenomena, and adaptive response to future strategic environments.
He has worked in a variety of military environments, including leading land forces operational research wargaming team supporting Army’s director of land requirements, supporting Canadian Expeditionary Forces Command’s mission assessment for Afghanistan, in 2009 he deployed to Afghanistan with the Task Force Kandahar where he was involved with mission planning and assessment.
Between 2010 and 2013 he was embedded with the US Central Command’s Afghanistan-Pakistan Centre where he led quantitative assessment team supporting key strategic decisions. Since 2013 he led the Maritime Forces Pacific Operational Research team, working on risk assessment, planning, and evaluation of the maritime surveillance, operational wargaming and force structure planning for the Royal Canadian Navy.
