Area of expertise

Creative nonfiction, fiction, comics.

The youngest of three sisters, Petranella was born and raised on the traditional territories of the Coast Salish Peoples. She initially followed her first love, illustration, to Sheridan College in Ontario, but returned home to the West Coast after taking a leap of faith and a creative writing elective. She received her B.A. in Creative Writing from UVic, where she took a comics class that helped her realize she could tell stories through art and writing at the same time. She has been published in This Side of West, Oldboys Zine, and is a 2020 Perennial Press Fellow. In her creative nonfiction, she explores themes of family, bisexuality, mental health, and the legacy of abuse. She writes about that in fiction, too, but with more monsters and magic.
