ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT:

The last ten or so years have seen the development of a new mathematical programming method called constraint programming (CP). Along with CP's own commercial successes tackling difficult combinatorial optimization problems in such areas as finite capacity scheduling and vehicle routing, it has also shown itself to be effective when combined with more traditional integer programming (IP) techniques. In an effort to simplify the use of CP by itself and with IP, Pascal Van Hentenryck recently designed a modeling language called the Optimization Programming Language (OPL). In this talk, OPL will be illustrated using a variety of examples as well as a demonstration of ILOG's development environment OPL Studio.
