MAC D-Wing seismic upgrade

As part of the Knowledge Infrastructure Program, the MacLaurin D-Wing will be undergoing an extensive life safety seismic upgrade over the next two years. (January 2019 – September 2021)

Facilities Management will be working with Kinetic Construction to construct reinforced vertical concrete shear walls. This requires excavating down below existing foundations, and penetrating up through the floors and at times through the roof. There will be steel beams installed at certain ceiling areas, and the roof and skylights will receive reinforcing. The former Curriculum Library area will undergo interior renovations to provide temporary classroom space for the duration of the renovation work. Washrooms and some classrooms will receive upgrades to interior finishes.

We apologize for the increased noise levels and vibration disturbances during this important work.

The south entrance (Level 1 – MAC D-Wing) will be closed for approximately 4.5 months.

The team working in the MAC D-Wing Construction Work Zone will be cutting the concrete slab, cutting soffit and removing the face brick to prepare the site for shear wall occurring January 2019, which will involve excavation and the installation of rock anchors, footings and reinforcing steel.
