Smart buildings, infrastructure and cities

By 2050, global population will reach approximately 9 billion and 75% of us will be living in cities. With urban areas recognized as the source and potential solution to global environmental challenges, we are assembling a team of researchers for developing green, sustainable, resilient cities. Examples of our research include:
- Infrastructure solutions for the dual challenge of climate change adaptation and mitigation in cities
- Strategies for the development of carbon neutral cities, including the economic and environmental impacts of emerging “electric cities”
- Development of quantitative methods for assessing and improving the resilience of urban infrastructure
- Modeling and optimization of community-scale energy systems
- Geotechnical engineering for sustainable urban environments
