BME design projects

Students have several opportunities to undertake a major design activity in the program. BME350 and BME499 are required courses while BME490 is optional. These projects allow students to apply and implement design lessons, techniques and skills acquired in earlier coursework, to solve real-world medical or industrial problems. Through BME350 and BME499, students experience hands-on, practical learning within student teams under the supervision of a faculty member and sometimes, with additional supervision and/or input from industrial partners. Students will develop professional-level communication skills when preparing engineering reports and delivering formal presentations at the end of the courses. BME490 is usually an individual project.

Students are encouraged to select a project originating from the medical industry, other health-based external organizations, or from a faculty member engaged in biomedical research.
