Brian graduated in Mechanical Engineering at UWO in 2004 and worked in the building services industry, until 2007, with a focus on energy efficiency.  Since then, Brian has been at the University of Ottawa, focusing research on detonation and explosion hazards for safety applications.  His Master's thesis focused on modelling the spontaneous ignition of high pressure hydrogen jets, while his Ph.D. work focused on using sophisticated Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) techniques to model the effect that turbulent mixing has on detonation propagation and initiation events, for fuel mixtures involving methane gas.  During this work, Brian had made two long-term academic visits to the University of Leeds, UK, to build collaborations and to receive training on advance CFD techniques of highly compressible flows.

In January 2016, Brian had completed his Ph.D. thesis and joined IESVic as a Post-doctoral Fellow.  His work now focuses on advancing CFD techniques and applying Large Eddy Simulation to high speed jet releases, both inert and reactive.

In his spare time, Brian enjoys spending time outdoors.  Favourite activities include kayaking, hiking, and camping.
