Indigenous Education students

8:30 to 9 a.m.

MacLaurin building, rooms D011 and D013

To start, Indigenous Education students will meet the Indigenous Education Practicum Coordinator for a program specific orientation to later join the Teacher Education cohort.

Education cohorts 

9 to 10 a.m.

All Education students will link up with their cohorts to meet other students and learn more about their programs (cohorts and locations below).

Education faculty orientation

10:15 to 11:30 a.m.

David Lam Auditorium, MacLaurin building

From their cohort sessions, everyone will head over to the David Lam Auditorium for a keynote presentation by the new Dean of Education – Dr. Vanessa Andreotti, to learn how to hold space for complexities in your studies and learn new skills that will help you on your learning journey. We can’t wait to see you there!

Fine Arts New Student Orientation

The Dean of Fine Arts invites all first-year & new transfer students in all five of our units (Art History & Visual Studies, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts, Writing) to attend this short introduction & overview of the Faculty, including speakers from Fine Arts Academic Advising & Co-op + Careers. Students will then break into groups for short, peer-led departmental orientation sessions and facility tours, plus a brief orientation in our computer labs.

Social Sciences

Social Sciences New Student Orientation

We welcome all incoming undergraduate students in the Faculty of Social Sciences to join us for the Social Sciences New Student Orientation! Come hear the Dean’s Welcome message and learn about academic programs, academic advising resources, and student experiences in the social sciences. Each session will include a student roundtable discussion on “How to Make the Most of Your Time at University” and a panel of international students sharing their experiences in the social sciences at UVic as well as student presentations on what it’s like to gain co-op work experience and write an honours thesis. Raffle prizes will be awarded at the end of each orientation session. We look forward to seeing you there!
