Spring honorary degrees
Media release
The recipients of the university's highest academic honour, the UVic honorary degrees this spring, are: acclaimed nature photographer and UVic alumnus Paul Nicklen; former UVic chancellor Murray Farmer; author Joy Kogawa; Canada-China relations builder Brian Lo; conservation research supporter Christina Munck; and Timothy Vernon, director of Pacific Opera Victoria.

The Ring
Paul Nicklen’s first words to a packed audience at UVic’s Farquhar auditorium on Feb. 6 were “I am incredibly honored to be here, and in fact I’m in utter disbelief, given my track record here at this university 23 years ago.” Nicklen was invited to speak for UVic’s Alumni week, which honors everything UVic’s grads do for their communities, and as a 1990 grad and Canada’s only photographer for National Geographic, he certainly fits the bill.
Celebration of excellence
The Ring
On Oct. 16, to celebrate the university’s global, national and local community impact, UVic paid tribute to five remarkable alumni whose inspiring stories of personal and professional accomplishment exemplify the university’s tradition of excellence. A Celebration of 50 Years of Excellence, held at the Crystal Garden in Victoria, also commemorated UVic’s path-breaking 30-year partnership with East China Normal University (ECNU).
Celebrating Five Decades of Excellence
Media release
The University of Victoria is hosting a 50th anniversary signature event on Oct. 16 to celebrate the university’s global, national and local community impact.
