Stephens Family Undergraduate Research Award
The Stephens Family Undergraduate Research Award in Organic and Sustainable Food Systems gave Riley the means to expand the scope of her project from a rain catchment system to a water conservation initiative with lasting benefits to community partner Woodwynn Farms.
Remarkable Lives project
One in seven Canadians lives with a disability. The Remarkable Lives project, funded by the Victoria Foundation, set out to better understand the challenges faced by people with disabilities and their families in Greater Victoria.
Chinese student at home at UVic
The Ring
Education graduate student Xiwen Wang had hardly strayed far from her hometown of Beijing before crossing the Pacific to attend graduate school at the University of Victoria. Now, since making that major leap, the 24-year-old is getting the most from the experience through involvement in her new community, which she happily calls home.
To serve and learn
The Ring
On March 16 UVic Residence Life and Education in partnership with Volunteer Victoria held Project Serve Day, where 70 UVic participants performed acts of service at six locations in the Greater Victoria Area. Project Serve programs inspire students to be actively engaged in community and social change through volunteer action and structured, critical reflection about their experiences.
A passion for community involvement
The Ring
A passion for volunteering is a necessary component of the Maxwell Cameron Award for Secondary Education. As such, it is little wonder that Chloe Faught is this year’s winner. Faught’s volunteer activities both at home and abroad are as impressive as they are varied, and are a testament to her dedication to both teaching and the wider community.
Volunteering for human rights
The Ring
A new campus initiative to advocate for human rights has attracted interest from more than 100 UVic students and employees.
