Peru field school teaches ecology, economy and spirituality
Walking along the foothills of the northern Peruvian Amazon, 14 UVic environmental studies students—along with instructors Ana Maria Peredo and Kate Turner and mentors Murdith McLean and Frederique Apffel-Marglin—embarked on a unique learning experience this spring that wove together ecology, economy and spirituality in an Indigenous setting.

“Communities and societies are grappling with many challenges in a rapidly changing world,” says Lynne Siemens, professor and graduate advisor in the School of Public Administration. “Addressing them requires new leadership and ways of working with individuals, communities, organizations and governments.”
Whose economy is it, anyway?
Dr. Ana Maria Peredo, director of the UVic-based BC Institute for Co-operative Studies (BCICS), looks beyond the recent bad economic news and sees a precious opportunity to do things differently.
