A view of last year's student welcome

This September, start the year off in a good way at the New Student Welcome to campus. Join students, staff and faculty as we celebrate a new academic year and welcome new students to UVic.

New Student Welcome

Tuesday, September 5, 12-1:30 p.m.
UVic quad (outside the McPherson library)
New Students are encouraged to attend and all UVic Community members are welcome

About the event

This year’s New Student Welcome event will include:

  • A welcome to the territory and prayer by Elders & cultural performances
  • Remarks from UVic President Kevin Hall and Executive Director of Indigenous Academic & Community Engagement (IACE) Kundoqk, Dr. Jacquie Green
  • A welcome from the Native Student Union (NSU) and Student Society Groups (UVSS & GSS)

The event is an important opportunity for the UVic community to come together to welcome new students and acknowledge the traditional territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples on whose territory the university stands and the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day.

Orientation events

If you're a new UVic student this fall, we have lots of great events to help you make friends, find your way around campus, get to know your faculty and so much more. Learn about all of our September orientation events.

We acknowledge and respect the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples on whose traditional territory the university stands and the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day.
