Recognizing International Holocaust Remembrance Day

On Saturday, Jan. 27 the University of Victoria recognizes International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The United Nations General Assembly designated January 27—the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau—as International Holocaust Remembrance Day, a time to remember the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and the millions of other victims of Nazi persecution. Each year, people all over the world take this opportunity to remember the victims of the Holocaust and reflect on the dangers of antisemitism.

The Holocaust was born out of hatred, intolerance and antisemitism. It’s important to reflect on this history, particularly as we are seeing rising rates of antisemitism on campus, and in our communities.

We continue to gather information about the current climate on campus and want to support those experiencing antisemitism. If you are experiencing discrimination of any kind, please reach out for support to Equity and Human Rights.
