Lloyd Milburn Innovation Award
For: graduate students and final-year undergraduate students
The Lloyd Milburn Innovation Award supports students who are tackling real-world health and equity challenges. This award is available to graduate students and final-year undergraduate students. Projects aimed at solutions for youth with disabilities will get priority.
Between 1 and 5 awards of up to $25,000 are granted each year. All awardees must participate in the UVic Innovation Centre programming. Here, you’ll get mentorship, training and support to bring your project to life.
You’ll get half of the funding upfront and the rest after you participate in our programming. If you also apply for a Mitacs award, you may receive the funding upfront.
Recipients should also apply to other funding programs, too. This will help maximize their project’s impact.

Orrego Award for Emerging Entrepreneurs
For: undergraduate or graduate students
One award of at least $2,000 will be given annually to a current client of the UVic Innovation Centre who wishes to start their own business. It is open to undergraduate and graduate students.
The recipient will be selected by the director of the Innovation Centre. They will have successfully completed Innovation Centre programming and have a strong business plan in place for their entrepreneurial venture. Preference will be given to international students.
Whelen Family Innovation Fund
For: graduate students
The Whelen Family Innovation Fund supports UVic graduate students solving real-world problems through innovation. This $7,500 award could help you grow your innovative idea with skills training, oversight and support from the UVic Innovation Centre.
