Dr. Janice Niemann

Janice holds a PhD in English with a focus on nineteenth-century British literature and culture. Her first book, Transgression and the Literary Garden, 1791-1911 (under contract with Manchester UP), explores garden settings as sites of social and generic transgression in British novels of the long nineteenth century, and her next major project focuses on representations of menstruation in Victorian pornography. She is also interested in pop culture, adaptation, and queer theory, which is why she's so excited to be teaching the Heated Rivalry course.
