Admission requirements

  • A BSW degree from an accredited institution
     
    • The BSW degree must be completed by April 30 of the entry year. Please note that this is a firm deadline, and we are unable to grant extensions or exceptions.

    • A grade point average (GPA) of 5.0 (B or equivalent) in the last 30 units leading to the bachelor's degree.

      (In exceptional cases a student may be admitted with lower formal qualifications when there is significant experience relevant to the proposed area of scholarship.)

    • Applicants with international credentials must hold a BSW degree from an internationally accredited School of Social Work.
    • International applicants: Following changes to the Government of Canada’s international student visa policies, this program is currently unavailable to international students.

  • Indigenous applicants require at least two years of full-time—or equivalent (approximately 3,000 hours)—preferably, post-BSW experience in an Indigenous human services context.

  • Non-Indigenous applicants require at least four years of full time—or equivalent (approximately 6000 hours)—preferably, post-BSW experience in an Indigenous human services context.
     
    • Paid or volunteer human services experience can include, but is not limited to, work in areas such as health, education, housing, income security, economic development, social justice, justice and public safety, community development and/or policy/advocacy work.

    • Practicums, internships and coop placements cannot be used to meet the human services requirement
