Events in March around centring Black voices in Social Work.

As we enter the month of June, we’re invited into a time of meaningful reflection—through both National Indigenous History Month and Pride Month. In a community like ours, where learning is rooted in truth, inclusion, and social justice, this month offers us the opportunity to pause and consider what we’ve been learning together throughout the year—and how these commemorative moments deepen that journey.

Dr. Bruce Wallace accepted the new award, Collaborative Research Excellence, from the Faculty of Human and Social Development, on behalf of Substance Drug Checking and their collaborators including Solid Outreach, Island Health Authority, BC Ministry of Mental Health & Addictions and Vancouver Island University.

We're pleased to share the inspiring journey of Dr. Jeannine Carriere, Professor in the School of Social Work's Indigenous specialization, as she prepares to retire from UVic after nearly 20 years of dedicated teaching and mentoring.
