A. MacLeod Baird Memorial Prize in Scottish History

Alexander MacLeod Baird (1900-1983) was a scholar of Scottish history and profoundly interested in the role played by the Scots in shaping Canada’s history and destiny.  Mr. Baird was a long-time friend of Dr. S. W. Jackman (1925-2011), a respected professor of History at UVic from 1963-1990.

His son, Ian MacLeod Baird (UVic BA History 1972; UVic BA History in Art 1982; University of Western Ontario MLIS 1988), created this prize in tribute to his father to honour his heritage and historical interests. Ian worked in the McPherson Library from 1972-2015 and also supports the Dr. Toby Jackman Book Prize in British History and the Sydney W. Jackman Prize in British History.
