Kedar Shrikhande Memorial Scholarship for Students with a Disability

Kedar Shrikhande (1981-2015) dreamed of becoming an engineer. He earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and nuclear physics from the University of Saskatchewan, and his master's in computer science from the University of Victoria. Following his master's, he began working on his PhD in computer science.

Since the age of 6, Kedar coped valiantly with the challenges of muscular dystrophy. The illness added increasing limitations to his life. He countered those limitations, not only with his educational accomplishments but with an array of interests: literature, history, politics, languages, movies, the environment and travel. He could set anyone at ease with a ready joke and a memorable smile. He made others forget he had a disability yet, over the years, through fundraising and counselling youth, he became an advocate for people with disabilities. He had a passion for knowledge and shared it freely to help others. The Kedar Shrikhande Memorial Scholarship, established in his honour, seeks to perpetuate these values.
