Gwen Lock Scholarship for Women

Gwen Lock is a life-long learner of technology, leadership, and public administration. She has obtained several educational degrees and certificates, most recently a Ph.D. in Management from Walden University (Minneapolis, MN) in 2010 that explored effective managerial knowledge sharing practices in the public sector. Prior to this, she obtained several degrees from the University of Victoria (B.Sc. in Computer Science, 1981; Master of Public Administration, 1996; Diploma of Public Sector Management, 1990) and Royal Roads University (M.A. in Leadership and Training, 2002).

The Gwen Lock Scholarship for Women reflects her passion for education and to support others in pursuing their dreams. “My parents and family have always supported me in my educational dreams, so it is important to support others who have similar dreams. In particular, women in the technology field – there are so few who are interested in technology, yet it is a field that offers a vast array of opportunities. In my case, although I started in technology, I broadened my perspectives into management, leadership, and most recently into analysis of social relationships. Without a solid foundation of knowledge, I could not have pursued these other interests. Education is a fundamental component for us to adapt to rapid change and being able to engage in the many societal challenges that we face today. Never stop learning!”
