Haneul Jang wins 2021 Co-op student of the year.

Haneul Jang – Mechanical Engineering wins 2021 Co-op student of the year award. Selection criteria included academic achievement, contribution to employer, community involvement and the impact that co-op has had on the student’s personal and professional development. Haneul’s nomination was supported by his co-op employer, Dr. Vahid Ahsani from the Mechanical Engineering department, and his co-op coordinator, Susan Fiddler.

Staff take the initiative in bringing online courses to life

Engineering Drawing has always been a popular course among mechanical engineering students at UVic because it’s usually their first experience in designing, manufacturing and testing a real device in a well-equipped machine shop. This term, when the course commonly known as MECH 200 went online, Rodney Katz was determined to find a way to retain some its experiential elements.

Futuristic tissue engineering

When University of Victoria biomedical engineer Mohsen Akbari gets talking about the futuristic microfibres being created in his lab to solve medical mysteries, it sounds just about as far away from nature as you can get. But in fact, nature is both inspiration and blueprint for the work of the Laboratory for Innovation in Microengineering (LiME). Researchers at the multi-discipline lab study what nature already does brilliantly, then work to recreate that in the lab to improve how to treat disease and administer drugs.
