About Samira

Dr. Samira Gharehkhani’s research focuses on developing sustainable advanced materials for energy and environmental applications. She has published over 25 peer-reviewed papers and received multiple awards and grants.

Her research interests include:

  • designing advanced functional materials from sustainable resources, such as micro- and nanofibrillated cellulose, lignin and nanolignin
  • engineering and characterizing carbon-based materials, including activated carbon, graphene and heteroatom-doped carbons
  • fabricating miniaturized energy storage devices, including microsupercapacitors and microbatteries, using advanced visualization techniques to study the structure of materials and energy devices
