About Mario

Dr. Mario Bras's research focuses on the design, modelling and optimization of advanced aerospace vehicles. His work combines aeroelasticity, structural dynamics, computational mechanics and multidisciplinary design optimization to understand the interactions between aerodynamics, structures, flight dynamics and control. He applies this understanding to develop efficient tools for aircraft design and analysis.

His research spans flexible-wing aircraft and unconventional configurations, including high-aspect-ratio, joined-wing and blended-wing-body designs. He has worked closely with industry partners on collaborative research projects addressing practical challenges in aerospace engineering.

His emerging research interests centre on the next generation of autonomous and sustainable uncrewed aerospace vehicles. These include high-altitude, long-endurance UAS, atmospheric energy harvesting, AI-enabled guidance and control, reduced-order modelling using machine learning, and advanced manufacturing techniques.
