My convocation day

What will your big day feel like? From regalia and robing to crossing the stage, photos with family and friends and joyful celebration, your UVic convocation is a one-of-a-kind experience.

Convocation ceremonies take place in the University Centre Farquhar Auditorium. There are nine ceremonies during the Spring convocation period and four ceremonies during the Fall convocation period. Each ceremony lasts 1.5 to 2 hours.

Step 1: Arrive at least 2 hours before your ceremony.

Use the parking pass that was emailed to you to get complimentary parking in the general lots.

Step 2: Pick up your regalia in the University Centre at the Board and Senate Chambers.

Regalia is worn by all students who attend Convocation. Check out what regalia you will be wearing.

TIP: Wear comfortable shoes - there is lots of walking and steep stairs. Be scent free.

Step 3: Follow the white tents to Clearihue C Wing. This is where you get ready and receive instructions.

Step 4: Follow the ceiling signs to find which room to go to (signs are alpha order by degree type).

Step 5: Go into your assigned room and check that your name in on the posted list.

Step 6: Find a volunteer to help you put on your regalia.

Step 7: Wait for the marshals to line you up in your room and give you instructions.

You are given a name strip that you give to the Dean when it’s your turn to cross the stage. If there is a need for phonetic spelling of your name, you can write it on the name strip.

Step 8: Follow the marshals from Clearihue into the auditorium and to your seat. Don’t worry you are directed the entire way.

Step 9: The ceremony begins.

During the ceremony the entire graduating class reads the pledge. It is written inside your program.

Step 10: Cross the stage to receive your diploma (degree parchment).

When your faculty is being admitted, marshals lead you from your seat in the auditorium and line you up. You each cross the stage in turn. The Chief Marshal informs you when to proceed.

Want to know what it looks like when you cross the stage? Check out the admission procedures videos. There are instructions in the marhalling rooms.

Step 11: After the ceremony meet your family and friends at the reception in Mystic Market.

Step 12: Return your regalia to University Centre at the Board and Senate Chambers.
