University Secretary appointment

On November 27, 2018 the Board of Governors accepted the recommendation of the search committee and approved the appointment of Ms. Carrie Andersen as the new University Secretary, effective December 1, 2018.

Before commencing her career at the University of Victoria, Ms. Andersen pursued studies in Child and Youth Care and then went on to complete a Bachelor of Laws at UVic in 2003. She was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2005.

Since joining the University Secretary’s office at UVic twelve years ago, Ms. Andersen has developed and consistently demonstrated the qualities the search committee sought in our next University Secretary. As Associate University Secretary, and while serving as Acting University Secretary, Ms. Andersen has engaged constructively with senior leaders and members of the governing bodies on issues of strategic importance, such as institutional autonomy, academic freedom, and equity, diversity and inclusion. Her service-oriented approach, ability to assess and address risk quickly, and thoughtful and insightful advice has been of great value to all members of the executive team and other senior leaders on campus.

I am confident that she will work effectively as a member of the senior executive team to sustain and build on a foundation of strong governance bodies and practices. I look forward to working with her in her new role.
