The Transgender Archives' online Discovery Tool searches the world’s largest collection of Trans+ publications!

The Transgender Archives at the University of Victoria is the largest trans archives in the world. Our collections comprise of nearly 400 periodical titles. Each unique issue contains valuable information such as articles written by trailblazing community members, and important historical events that shaped trans history and activism.

This online Discovery Tool searches historically valuable details, such as people, places, dates, titles, and subject keywords. This database does not represent our entire periodical collection; more materials are being regularly added.

HOW TO ACCESS

Faculty, students, and staff at UVic (and other institutions) can login with their institutional ID. Non-affiliated users must sign up for a FREE account.

Visit our Mapping Transgender Activism Project collection and review the description of how the files are structured. The dataset is comprised of 12 files:

  • 7 PUBLIC FILES: These unresticted publically accessible files describe what is in the restricted files for which you will have to obtain permission to view.
  • 5 RESTRICTED FILES: These restricted files contain the raw data that you require permission to access. Because the files contain potentially sensitive information, we first want to determine who you are, and why you want the dataset. When you click "Access File" you will be presented with a link to a brief questionnaire. Your answers will be reviewed by the office of the Chair in Transgender Studies. We will normally respond within a few business days.
