Orientation leaders help to connect new students to the UVic community by welcoming, inspiring and supporting them. They act as university ambassadors and upper-year mentors, helping guide new students through orientation programming.

This is a volunteer opportunity. Volunteers are required to participate in training and be available for the entirety of event days.

To apply: Due to COVID-19, orientation programming has moved online. This position is currently on hold until we return to in-person programming.

Practicum/co-op opportunities

We often accept practicum or co-op students to work in our office. Former students have worked on projects involving curriculum development, program assessment, event planning and more. Co-op opportunities can often be found on Learning in Motion. If you’re interested in a practicum or co-op opportunity with our team, to explore your options.

Student Leadership

The Office of Student Life offers you a different take on what student leadership can look and feel like through the Nourish + Flourish program!

This new program is taking place in a three-part event series — each with a unique theme centred around the self in relationship to the world around us. These events will be held in spring term 2023 and will be an incubator for connection, ideas and empowerment.

To apply: Registration opens in February 2023.

Student Life Grant

The Office of Student Life administers the UVic Student Life Grant, which funds current undergraduate and graduate student-led initiatives (up to $1,000 per applicant) that engage and positively impact the UVic campus community. Additional funding (up to $500 per applicant) is available through the Anti-Racism Supplement to prioritize and support initiatives that focus on addressing racism, utilizing anti-racist strategies.

To apply: There are 3 application deadlines per year. The application form, deadlines and further information is available on the OSL website

We often hire student staff to fill summer positions. These students may help with program planning, event planning, workshop development, communications and more.

These are paid work opportunities (typically $19/hour or more); hours vary by position.

To apply: These roles are generally posted in the spring for summer positions.

Work-study students

We often hire students for part-time positions September to April through the work-study program. These students help with a variety of projects in our office.
