History
Ida Halpern (1910-1987) was an ethnomusicologist whose most notable work was with the First Nations of British Columbia. She was granted Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Queen Elizabeth II in 1957 and the Order of Canada in 1978.
George Halpern (1902-1989) was a chemist, philanthropist and founder of G. R. Chemicals.
GSC is often referred to as either the Graduate Centre or the Grad House.
